Hespuhúsið is an open plant dye studio in Ölfus. In Hespuhúsið, Guðrún Bjarnadóttir plant dyes wool according to old traditions but with modern technology, for example she uses electricity and has better dye pots. In Hespuhúsið, visitors have the opportunity to take a look in the dye pots and learn about the old craft. The studio has a sitting room where you can sit down and read books or pick up the needles. In the seating area but there is a mini museum with old objects, many related to old crafts.

In Hespuhúsið, there is plant dyed yarn for sale, einband and lopi light, as well as kits with patterns and yarn for certain projects.

Opening hours are fixed in the summer, but outside of those hours visitors are welcome to stop by if I’m in the studio, which is almost always. However, it is best to call ahead and book an appointment or check if I am available. The phone number is 865 2910.

Directions: Drive from Reykjavík towards Selfoss. Just before reaching the Ölfusá-bridge, turn onto Árbæjarvegur at the roundabout near the Toyota car dealership. Drive there for approximately 900 meters and turn at the HESPUHÚSIÐ sign.
